Thoughts For The Day

Notice what brings you peace, calm, and clarity.

Take time to journal about it and/or draw about it.

If you haven't started a journal for 2021, consider starting today.

Journals are a great way to capture the patterns of our emotions, thoughts, and actions.

Get to know "you" better.

April 6, 2021

"If you judge people, you have no time to love them."

- Mother Teresa

Reflective Questions for Journaling

As you reflect on today's quote, consider the possible outcomes of harsh judgment towards self and others.  Perhaps you acquired a "habit" of perceiving others who are different than you, from experiences in your formative years.  Think back to conversations around the dinner table as you were growing up and discussions at school, church, or other gatherings.

1.  Have you ever felt as if others were judging you in a negative way?

2.  How did this impact your self-esteem?

3.  Do you judge yourself and/or others - in a harsh way?

4.  What are positive alternatives to negative judgment?

5.  How might a change of how you respond to others, have a positive impact on self and/or others?

Quote For The Day

“When you come to another with love in your heart,
asking nothing, only offering that love,
you create miraculous relationships.”

― Wayne W. Dyer
Real Magic: Creating Miracles in Everyday Life

Reflective Questions for Journaling

1.  How do you feel about the above quote?

2.  Are there times when love seems "not enough"?

Explore your reactions and thoughts to the above quote.  You may notice a variety of emotions emerge and that is okay.  Perhaps you have offered love to another and a miraculous relationship did not result.  Practice the art of "Just Noticing".  Notice the subtle and the obvious in situations and conversations.  Notice the emotions that arise from within.  For today, "notice" the thoughts and reflections that arise about love and relationships.

Quote For The Day

“If others tell us something we make assumptions, and if they don't tell us something we make assumptions to fulfill our need to know and to replace the need to communicate. Even if we hear something and we don't understand we make assumptions about what it means and then believe the assumptions. We make all sorts of assumptions because we don't have the courage to ask questions.”

― Miguel Ruiz
The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

Reflective Questions for Journaling

1.  What initial thoughts came up for you as you read today's quote?

2.  What assumptions do you make when you hear another person speak?

3.  Is there anything that influences the assumptions you make when talking to another person?

The sound of their voice?   The rate and tone of their speech?  The clothes they wear?  Etc.

Gaining insight into how our thinking and beliefs are influenced, even in very subtle ways, helps us become more aware of our habits of thought and action.  Today, bring awareness to the subtle differences you observe in others and also in yourself.

Quote For The Day

“We stood in silence, and then the long-haired man repeated, “You are in pain. Do you know why?” “No, why?” I asked, even though I certainly did know why. “Because you are afraid.” “Afraid of what?” “Afraid of yourself,” the man said, placing his hand on his chest and patting his heart. “You are afraid to feel your real feelings. You are afraid to want what you really want. What do you want?”

― Elizabeth Lesser

― Wyatt Webb
It's Not About the Horse: It's About Overcoming Fear and Self-Doubt

Reflective Questions for Journaling

For today's reflective journaling, choose one thing that you are searching for in life.  Is it love, financial freedom, peace of mind, better health, or something different?  Often, we want "everything".  We "want it all" and it can be a daunting challenge to go after it all at once.

Today - choose one.  Just one.  Focus deeply until you feel you have all elements of this particular desire, clearly in your mind.  Like an architect designing a building, sketch out your plan to make your desire a reality.

To help you focus on what is most important to you, we have selected the following questions to get you started.

1.  What would you love to do "more of" in your daily life?

2.  How do you want to "feel" when you wake up each morning?

3.  What are you most grateful for in your life?

4.  What is holding you back from living your dream life?

Quote For The Day

"For every minute you remain angry,
you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Reflective Questions for Journaling

1.  What did you learn about anger growing up?

2.  How can you respond differently to the emotion of anger?

Reflective Exercise

Calmly reflect on a situation that angers you.  Imagine that you are watching yourself in a movie as you confront the situation.  Notice your facial expressions, your body movements, and your posture.  Before you respond in an angry manner, imagine the movie freezes.  It stops.  You see yourself before anything further happens.  It is like you have a perfect opportunity to "rewrite" the scene.  Reflect on how the scene will be different this time.  You are invited to journal about this experience and any thoughts that came up for you.

Quote For The Day

"Life is a series of baby steps along the way and if you add up these tiny little steps you take toward your goal, whatever it is, whether it's giving up something, a terrible addiction or trying to work your way through an illness. When you total up those baby steps you'd be amazed over the course of 10 years, the strides you've taken."

- Hoda Kotb

Reflective Questions for Journaling

1.  What baby steps have you taken in the past to reach a goal?

2.  Is there a new goal you would like to set, and if so, what baby steps can you put into action today?

Reflective Exercise

Ready to take action steps to meet a new goal?  Make a chart.  Simple or fancy.  Do it YOUR way.  As you have probably heard before, place that chart somewhere highly visible.  It can be on the front of the refrigerator - inside the refrigerator - in your closet - in your car.  You get to pick.  Choose how many days you want to work on the goal.  It can be short or long.  If you are just starting out, it's OK to take 'one day at a time'.  Remember, all those baby steps DO ADD UP!  This is for YOU!
