What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the process of using hypnosis to interact with the subconscious mind in an open-reflective process to create positive change in your life.
The term "hypnosis" comes from the Greek word hypnos, meaning "sleep." Hypnotherapists use exercises that help bring about deep relaxation and a deeply focused state that is highly responsive to an idea or image. Like other relaxation techniques, hypnosis lowers blood pressure and heart rate, and changes certain types of brain wave activity. Your conscious mind becomes less alert and your subconscious mind becomes more focused.
The clinical value of imagery has been well documented in the treatment of a wide variety of conditions such as cancer, migraine headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, hypertension, anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, post- traumatic stress, and immune system disorders. (1)
Nursing expert Dorthy Larkin Ph.D. describes hypnosis as "a process of therapeutic communication, awareness, and behavior within the context of a therapeutic relationship." (2)
Nursing research has shown the positive impact hypnosis can have for a variety of conditions. It has been used by nurses in hospice care, palliative care, home care and critical care, as well as in burn units and oncology, obstetrics, medicine and surgery units. (3)
This session is tailored to your specific needs. After a complete intake assessment, a plan of care is discussed. Sessions typically include therapeutic interventions that have been shown to aid in reducing trauma and grief symptoms. Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, Sound Healing, Aromatherapy, Breathing Exercises and Yoga Nidra are some of the healing modalities that can be incorporated into a session.
Mind/Body healing modalities have been shown to significantly reduce post-traumatic symptoms in several clinical studies. Interventions are designed to help reduce flashbacks, nightmares, isolation, numbing, fear, shame and anger; as well as restore a sense of inner hope, self-esteem and meaning.
